Rental terms and conditions
Last updated · version 1
This English text is a translation provided for your convenience. The rental agreement you sign at handover is in Thai, and the Thai version is the legally binding one. Where the two differ, the Thai text governs. If anything below is unclear, ask us before you sign — we would much rather explain it twice than have you agree to something you did not understand.
Note on Thai consumer law. Vehicle rental is a controlled contractual business under regulations issued by the Office of the Consumer Protection Board. These terms are drafted to reflect those requirements. They have not yet been reviewed by a Thai lawyer. That review is outstanding and this document should not be relied upon as final until it has been completed.
1. Driver requirements
The driver must be 21 years of age or older and must have held a full driving licence for at least one year.
Drivers aged 18 to 20 cannot be covered under our policy and we cannot rent to them. Drivers over 70 should contact us before booking so we can confirm the insurance position.
Only drivers named on the rental agreement may drive the vehicle. Additional named drivers can be added at no cost, provided each produces the same documents in person. If an unnamed person is driving at the time of an incident, the insurance will not respond.
2. Licence and documents
At handover you must produce, as originals:
- Your full driving licence, held for at least one year
- For a licence issued outside Thailand: a valid International Driving Permit issued under the 1949 Geneva Convention
- Your passport (non-Thai nationals) or Thai national ID card
Photographs, photocopies and digital images are not accepted.
An IDP must be obtained in your own country before you travel; it cannot be issued in Thailand. Driving without one where it is required is an offence, and — far more seriously — places you outside the terms of the insurance policy, meaning any claim may be refused and the full cost of damage would fall on you personally. For this reason we cannot release a vehicle to a foreign-licence driver without a valid IDP, and will cancel the booking and refund any payment instead.
3. Deposit
A refundable deposit is taken at handover. The amount is stated on each vehicle's page and is ordinarily between ฿5,000 and ฿10,000 depending on the model.
The deposit may be paid in cash or by PromptPay transfer. A credit card is not required and we do not take payment online.
The deposit is returned in full on the day the vehicle is returned, once the joint inspection is complete. It is not applied against the rental charge. Deductions are made only for amounts you owe under these terms — an unpaid excess, unpaid fines, missing fuel or charge, or costs arising from a breach of clause 13.
4. Insurance and excess
Every vehicle carries first-class (Class 1) motor insurance, included in the rental price at no additional charge.
The standard excess — the amount you are responsible for in a claim — is ฿5,000. This can be reduced to zero for ฿300 per day by selecting the excess-reduction option at booking.
Not covered, whether or not you buy excess reduction
- Damage caused while the driver was under the influence of alcohol or drugs
- Damage caused by a driver not named on the rental agreement
- Damage caused while driving without a valid licence or, where required, a valid IDP
- Damage caused by deliberate acts or by driving in a manner constituting an offence
- Damage arising from use outside the permitted area (clause 7)
- Damage to the underside of the vehicle from driving on unsuitable surfaces
- Loss of, or damage to, personal belongings left in the vehicle
- Tyre and wheel damage from kerbs or potholes, which is charged at cost
Where cover does not apply, you are responsible for the full cost of repair, not the excess amount.
5. Charging policy
The vehicle is delivered fully charged at our cost.
Return it at approximately the state of charge at which you received it. If it is lower, we charge the actual cost of recharging at ฿8 per kWh.
We do not operate a "full-to-full" policy. Charging an electric vehicle to 100% at a fast charger takes disproportionately long and is not good for the battery, so requiring it before return would cost you time for no benefit.
6. Mileage
Unlimited. There is no daily or total distance cap and no excess-mileage charge.
7. Permitted area of use
The vehicle may be driven anywhere within Thailand.
The vehicle may not be taken outside Thailand under any circumstances. The insurance does not extend beyond the border, and taking the vehicle across it is a breach of these terms and of the insurance policy.
Driving on unsurfaced tracks, riverbeds, beaches or terrain the vehicle is not designed for is not permitted, and damage arising from it is not covered.
8. Collection and return
Collection and return take place at the time and place agreed at booking. Free delivery applies within approximately 25 km of the Chiang Mai city centre; beyond that a delivery charge of ฿300 per rental applies, stated to you before you commit.
At both collection and return, the vehicle is photographed jointly by both parties — all four corners, both bumpers, all wheels, the cabin, and the odometer and state of charge. The collection set is sent to you immediately and is the reference against which the return is assessed.
Collection or return between 22:00 and 06:00 carries an out-of-hours charge of ฿200 per rental, charged once and not per day. Where a delay into that window is caused by a late flight or train, we do not apply it.
9. Late return
A grace period of 59 minutes applies. Beyond that, an additional day is charged at the applicable daily rate for each 24-hour period or part thereof.
If you are running late, tell us. An extension is usually possible and is always cheaper than an unnotified late return.
10. Fines, tolls and parking
Traffic fines, toll charges and parking charges incurred during your rental are your responsibility.
Where a fine reaches us after the vehicle has been returned, we will send you the notice and the evidence. We do not add an administration fee.
11. In the event of an accident
- Stop, and check whether anyone is injured. Ambulance: 1669. Police: 191.
- Call us, at any hour, on the number in your LINE chat. We will guide you through what follows.
- Do not move the vehicles until the insurance assessor has attended, unless they present an immediate danger.
- Photograph everything — both vehicles, their positions, the road, and any damage.
- Obtain a police report where the police attend. Thai insurers generally require one to process a claim; without it, settlement may be refused.
- Do not agree a private settlement at the roadside before speaking to us.
12. Breakdown and roadside assistance
If a warning light appears or the vehicle will not proceed, stop somewhere safe and call us. Roadside assistance for mechanical failure is included and is arranged by us.
Recovery arising from driver error — a flat battery from failing to charge, damage from unsuitable terrain, keys locked inside — is chargeable at cost.
13. Prohibited uses
The vehicle may not be:
- Driven by any person not named on the agreement
- Driven under the influence of alcohol or drugs
- Used to carry passengers or goods for hire or reward
- Used in any motorsport, competition or speed trial
- Used to tow or push another vehicle
- Used to carry anything illegal
- Sub-let, lent or transferred to any third party
- Smoked in — a cleaning charge applies
- Taken outside Thailand
14. Extending the rental
Extensions are subject to availability. Message us as early as you can. Where the extension takes the total hire into a longer band, the lower daily rate applies to the whole rental, not only the extra days.
15. Cancellation and refunds
Cancellation is free at any time up to 24 hours before the agreed collection time. No payment is taken in advance, so cancelling is simply a matter of telling us. The full policy is on the cancellation page.
16. Personal data
Personal data is handled in accordance with the Personal Data Protection Act B.E. 2562 (2019). See our privacy policy for what we collect, why, how long we keep it and what rights you have.
17. Governing law
These terms are governed by the law of the Kingdom of Thailand, and the Thai-language rental agreement signed at handover is the operative document.
