FAQ
Straight answers on paperwork, deposits, insurance and charging. If your question is not here, message us any time of day.
Documents and licences
Do foreign visitors need an International Driving Permit?
Yes. Drivers without a Thai licence must present an original International Driving Permit together with their home-country licence, and we check both at handover. Driving without one carries a fine, but the more serious risk is that the insurer can decline a claim after an accident, leaving you liable for the full cost of the damage. Apply for an IDP with your own licensing authority before you travel — it cannot be issued in Thailand.
Payment and deposit
How much is the deposit and when do I get it back?
The deposit is between THB 5,000 and 10,000 depending on the car, stated on each vehicle page and again in the summary before you confirm. Cash is accepted — a credit card is not required. The deposit is not rent and is not deducted from the rental cost. We return it in full on the day you bring the car back, as soon as the vehicle has been checked. If anything needs to be deducted we show you the itemised amount first.
How do I pay, and do I need a credit card?
No credit card is needed, and we take no payment through the website. You settle the rental and the deposit on the day you collect the car — cash and PromptPay transfer are both accepted, and a credit-card hold is available if you prefer. This is deliberate: the site never handles your card number, so there is no payment data here to leak. A receipt is issued at handover; tell us at booking if you need a full tax invoice.
Charging
How easy is charging in Chiang Mai, and how long does it take?
It is straightforward. Chiang Mai has fast chargers at the major shopping malls, at petrol stations on the main roads, and at many hotels. All our cars use the CCS2 connector, which nearly every fast charger in Thailand supports. A fast charge from 20% to 80% takes roughly 30 to 40 minutes — about the length of one meal stop. We hand the car over fully charged at no cost on day one, and send you a list of chargers along your planned route over LINE before you set off.
Collection and delivery
How does airport pickup work, and is there a fee?
Airport delivery is free. A staff member waits in the arrivals area with a sign showing your name. We ask for your flight number at booking so we can track the actual landing time — if the flight is delayed we wait for the new time at no extra charge. Handover takes about 15 minutes including the vehicle inspection and contract. Flights landing after 22:00 incur an out-of-hours fee of THB 200 per rental.
Booking
Is my booking confirmed straight away?
Not immediately. Once you finish the form you receive a booking reference and a full summary, and the status stays "awaiting confirmation" until our team has checked availability and replied — usually within 15 minutes during working hours. We say this plainly because we run a small fleet and a real person checks every request. Showing "confirmed" before anyone has looked at the calendar would simply not be true. Keep the summary link — it stays valid for reference.
Is parking difficult in the Chiang Mai Old City?
Inside the moat the lanes are narrow and street parking fills up quickly from late afternoon onwards. If your accommodation is inside the Old City, ask the hotel about parking before you book — some have none at all. A small car like the BYD Dolphin fits spaces an SUV cannot, which is the main reason we recommend it for Old City stays. Parking is easier around Tha Phae Gate and Chang Khlan Road, and the shopping-mall car parks are open to everyone and rarely full.
Can I cancel, and is there a fee?
Cancellation is free up to 24 hours before pickup. Because we take no prepayment, cancelling is simply a matter of telling us — message us on LINE or call with your booking reference. Inside 24 hours we reserve the right to charge one day, since the car was held and other customers were turned away. If you would rather move the dates than cancel, just ask: we will fit you into the calendar where we can, with no change fee.
Insurance and cover
What does the insurance cover, and what is the excess?
Every car includes first-class insurance at no extra cost, covering damage to the vehicle, third-party injury and property damage, and theft. The excess is the maximum you pay yourself if you are at fault — ours is THB 5,000, however large the actual repair bill turns out to be. To remove that risk, add THB 300 per day for zero excess, which also covers tyres and glass. What is never covered, with or without the upgrade: driving under the influence, drivers not named on the contract, and taking the car outside Thailand.
